Some of these hand-colored engravings are cut from the first edition of James Edward Sowerby's classic English Botany: Or Coloured Figures of British Plants with their Essential Characters, Synonyms, and Places of Growth, published in 1803 by J. Taylor, London.  The age toning on these plates is very mild.  Some of the plates come the second edition, published in 1832; these plates are partially colored.
