These stunning hand-colored engravings are cut from Benjamin Maund's celebrated periodical The Botanist: Containing Accurately Coloured Figures, of Tender and Hardy Ornamental Plants, with Descriptions, Scientific and Popular, published from 1836 to 1842 . The plates are by Miss Taylor, Miss S. Maund, Miss Mintern, Miss Nicholson, J. S. Henslow and others.  Engraved by S. Watts, Nevitt, and Smith.

The chromolithographs below are cut from the second, expanded edition of William Watson and William Jackson Bean's classic Orchids: Their Culture and Management: With Descriptions of All the Kinds in General Cultivation, published by L. Upcott Gill, London, 1895.  This work was immensely influential in generating interest in orchid growing as a hobby.  Some of the plates are attributed to Champion Jones.
