Abyssinian Birds and Mammals The original chomolithographs below are by celebrated artist Louis Agassiz Fuertes and come from his portfolio An Album of Abyssinian Birds and Mammals, published by the Field Museum, Chicago, 1930. The images are printed on heavy cardboard stock, each surrounded by a dark gray border (not shown in the photos). There is some mild to moderate age toning, most evident in the images with white backgrounds. The date and place of observation is inscribed in the plate, as is the Latin name of the species. The common name appears in the bottom margin, and a little information about the animal appears on the back of each plate. These plates are widely regarded as Fuertes' best work. Image Size: 8 x 10 inches |
