| Flora Batava (1) The hand-colored copper-plate engravings are cut from volume eight of Flora Batava of Afbeelding en Beschrijving van Nederlandsche Gewassen, published by J. C. Sepp en Zoon, Amsterdam, 1844. Jan Kops and H. C. van Hall began the series in 1800, and publication continued through volume 28, issued in 1934. The plates are printed on strurdy, hand-laid, water-marked paper. The plates are generally clean and free of foxing but evince toning consistent with their age. The toning is heaviest around the edges. Plates are accompanied by text in French and Dutch. Size: 5.75 x 9.5 inches Some plates have a folded extension at the bottom, leaving a blank area on the left. Some images extend nearly to the edge of the plate. |
