William  H. Emory
Fauna of SW United States

These fine lithographs are cut from William Hemsley Emory's (1811-1887) classic Report on the United States-Mexican Boundary Survey, Under the Direction of the Secretary of the Interior, etc., printed by Cornelius Wendel and published in Washington, 1857-59 .  The artist is J. H. Richard.  This important survey, conducted between 1848 and 1853,  reported on the people, topography, and biology of the American Southwest.  Emory, a competent cartographer and engineer, became one of the foremost authorities on the American Southwest.

These engravings are printed on heavy stock and the paper is very white.  A number of the prints, however, have a water stain in a corner of the margin.  In most cases, this stain does not impinge on the image area.

Size: 8 x 11 inches
