Denis Diderot
These handsome copper-plate engravings
are cut from the third edition of Denis
Diderot (1713-1784) and Jean Le Rond d'Alembert's
(1717-1783) Encyclopedie, ou Dictionnaire Raisonne des Sciences, des Arts et
des Metiers, 1770-75. Completed under the direction of Robert Benard, these
plates are printed on heavy-wove paper and are very clean. They
have very mild age toning and thus have a slightly more beige hue
than the photos suggest. The hand-coloring on the colored
engravings is recent. The colored prints are by Martinet. Size: 8.5 x 11.25 inches
