These beautifully rendered and immensely popular chromolithographs are by Sherman F. Denton and cut from the various State of New York Annual Report of the Commissioners of Fisheries, Game, and Forests (FGF), appearing between 1895 and 1906, or are taken from the portfolio of prints published in 1902. The portfolio plates are slightly larger, but many critics regard the smaller FGF plates to be superior in quality. The actual images are the same size on the PORT and FGF plates.
