| James E. De Kay (1) Birds of New York These prints are hand-colored lithographs taken
from James Ellsworth DeKay's classic Zoology of
New York ,or the New-York
Fauna, Part II, Birds, published in Albany, NY, by Carrol and
Cook, 1844
. The artist is John William Hill, and the lithography is by George
Endicott of New York. The plates are printed on sturdy, white paper,
which is
in exceptionally fine condition, with fresh, clean surfaces and
very little evidence of wear. Although the plates are 157 years
old, they look and feel as if they were just printed. It would
be hard to find a better set of De Kay's birds.
