With Additional Descriptions of All the Species Hitherto Named, and of Many not before Noticed, edited by Edward Griffith and printed for George B. Whittaker, London (1827-35) . Originally published in French in 1817 as Le Règne animal destribué d'après son organisation, this work was the "most influential exposition of the typological approach to animal classification, representing the greatest body of zoological facts that had yet been assembled; it served as the standard zoological manual formost of Europe during the first half of the nineteenth century"--Norman Library. The plates are printed on fine, "Whatman" paper and all dated "1834." The painting is detailed, and the coloring exquisite. Scientific names are specified on all plates. |
