Gracius I. Broinowski These chromolithographs are cut from Gracius Broinowski's (1837-1913) six-volume
Birds of
Australia, published in Melbourne, 1887-1891, and limited to 1000
copies. At the age of 20, Broinowski left
Poland to avoid conscription and seek his fortune in the Australian
gold fields. After trying his hand at various rural trades, he
eventually turned to painting as he wandered the countryside. In
1878, Broinowski settled in Sydney, where he became a teacher resident
artist. Size: 10.5 x 14.25 inches
